Land of Kings — majestic forts, golden deserts, blue cities and royal heritage
Rajasthan is India at its most dramatic — a state where history isn't just in the past, it's literally everywhere you look. Magnificent forts rise from desert hills, ornate palaces reflect in serene lakes, and camel caravans cross golden sand dunes at sunset. Jaipur, the Pink City, has Amber Fort and Hawa Mahal. Jodhpur, the Blue City, has the towering Mehrangarh Fort. Udaipur, the City of Lakes, has the Lake Palace. Jaisalmer, the Golden City, rises straight from the Thar Desert. Together, they form one of India's greatest travel experiences.
October to March is the best time — cool and pleasant. The famous Pushkar Camel Fair happens in November. April to June is extremely hot. July to September is monsoon season — some areas flood but the landscape turns beautifully green. Most heritage hotels reduce rates in summer.
