Devbhoomi — Char Dham pilgrimage, Rishikesh yoga, Jim Corbett tigers and Nainital lakes
Uttarakhand, literally the Land of the Gods (Devbhoomi), is one of India's most spiritually and naturally significant states. Nestled in the western Himalayas, it encompasses the source rivers of the Ganga and Yamuna, the Char Dham pilgrimage circuit, and some of India's most pristine national parks and wildlife sanctuaries. Rishikesh, the Yoga Capital of the World, sits on the banks of the Ganga and attracts seekers of spirituality, adventure, and wellness from across the globe. White-water rafting on the Ganga, bungee jumping from India's highest platform, and meditation retreats make Rishikesh one of India's most versatile destinations. Mussoorie, the Queen of Hills, perches at 2,000 metres on a Himalayan ridge with panoramic views of the Doon Valley and Shivalik ranges. Nainital, built around the emerald Naini Lake, is a classic British hill station with boat rides, cable cars, and the sacred Naina Devi Temple. The Char Dham — Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath — is one of Hinduism's most sacred pilgrimage circuits, drawing millions of devotees annually. Jim Corbett National Park, India's oldest national park, provides excellent opportunities to spot the Royal Bengal Tiger in natural forested landscapes. Valley of Flowers National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, blooms with hundreds of species of Himalayan wildflowers between July and September. Auli, a ski resort at 2,500 metres, offers Himalayan skiing with views of Nanda Devi — India's second-highest peak — providing a backdrop for adventure sports year-round.
March to June is ideal for hill stations, nature walks, and adventure sports — temperatures are pleasant across the state. July to September is the Char Dham pilgrimage season despite monsoon — the temples are open and pilgrims throng the mountain roads. The Valley of Flowers is accessible only from July to September. October and November offer post-monsoon clarity with stunning Himalayan views. December to February brings snow to Mussoorie, Auli, and higher regions — perfect for skiing at Auli and snow experiences.
