Maharashtra Tour Package – 4 Nights / 5 Days

Maharashtra — India's wealthiest and most cosmopolitan state — is a destination of extraordinary contrasts: the financial capital Mumbai (Bollywood, colonial heritage, Asia's largest slum, and world-class restaurants), the UNESCO cave complexes of Ajanta and Ellora (1,600 years of continuous Buddhist, Hindu, and Jain rock-cut art), serene hill stations like Lonavala and Mahabaleshwar, and India's wine country around Nashik. Our 4-night Maharashtra Signature tour is ideal for travellers from Noida, Delhi who want to combine Mumbai's energy with the UNESCO cave masterpieces in a concise, well-paced itinerary.

Mumbai – Maximum City

Mumbai is India's most layered city — a place where the Gateway of India greets the Arabian Sea, Victorian Gothic buildings stand beside Art Deco mansions, and the world's most expensive private residence (Antilia) overlooks Dharavi (Asia's most productive slum). The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (UNESCO World Heritage Site — a stunning Victorian Gothic-Mughal fusion railway station) processes over 3 million commuters daily. Marine Drive (the "Queen's Necklace"), Juhu Beach, the Elephanta Caves (UNESCO), Siddhivinayak Temple, Haji Ali Dargah, Bollywood Studio tours, Crawford Market, and the legendary street food of Mohammad Ali Road and Khau Galli — Mumbai repays endless exploration. For travellers from Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai's scale and intensity is an experience unlike anywhere else in India.

Ajanta & Ellora Caves – UNESCO Twin Masterpieces

The Ajanta Caves (2nd century BCE – 7th century CE) are 30 rock-cut Buddhist monasteries and prayer halls decorated with extraordinarily vivid frescoes — the most complete surviving examples of ancient Indian painting. The Ellora Caves (6th-11th century CE) represent all three major Indian religions: 12 Buddhist, 17 Hindu, and 5 Jain cave temples, including the magnificent Kailasa Temple (Cave 16) — carved top-down from a single basalt cliff, the world's largest monolithic rock-cut structure. Both sites lie near Aurangabad, 5 hours from Mumbai, and travellers from Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Pune, Lucknow frequently combine them in a single Aurangabad-based overnight trip.

Lonavala – Maharashtra's Weekend Escape

Lonavala and Khandala, perched 625m above sea level in the Western Ghats, are Maharashtra's most popular hill stations — a green, misty escape from Mumbai and Pune (both 2 hours away). The Bhushi Dam (spectacular in monsoon), Tiger's Leap viewpoint, Karla and Bhaja Caves (ancient Buddhist caves with beautifully carved facades), Rajmachi Fort (a trekker's favourite), and Lonavala's famous chikki (peanut brittle) are all highlights. The Pawna Lake camping scene has grown enormously among weekend travellers from Mumbai, Pune, Surat.

Maharashtra Tour – 6 Nights / 7 Days (Most Popular)

Our most popular package adds Mahabaleshwar and Nashik to the Mumbai-Ajanta-Ellora circuit. Mahabaleshwar (1,372m) is Maharashtra's premier hill station — famous for its strawberry farms, panoramic viewpoints, Venna Lake boating, and the Wilson's Point sunrise. Nashik is India's wine capital and a major Hindu pilgrimage site (Kumbh Mela city). Starting from ₹16,999 per person — perfect for travellers from Delhi, Noida, Chandigarh, Indore.

Mahabaleshwar – Strawberry Hills

Mahabaleshwar, 285km from Mumbai in the Sahyadri ranges, is Maharashtra's most scenic hill station. The Venna Lake, Pratapgad Fort (built by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in 1656), Arthur's Seat viewpoint (overlooking the Konkan coast), and numerous strawberry farms make for a charming, diverse destination. The ancient Mahabaleshwar Temple (source of the Krishna River) and Panchgani's Table Land plateau add cultural and geographical interest. Mahabaleshwar is also famous for its exceptional local produce: strawberries, mapro strawberry products, honey, and muramba (fruit preserve).

Nashik – Wine & Pilgrimage

Nashik, 170km from Mumbai on the Godavari River, is simultaneously one of India's most sacred pilgrimage cities and its fastest-growing wine tourism destination. The Sula Vineyards estate offers world-class wine tasting in a picturesque vineyard setting with the Sahyadri hills as backdrop. The annual Sula Fest (January-February) is India's premier outdoor music and wine festival. The Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga (one of 12 sacred Shiva shrines), Muktidham Temple, and Panchwati (where Lord Ram spent 14 years in exile) ensure the city's deep spiritual significance alongside its emerging cosmopolitan food and wine culture.

Complete Maharashtra Tour – 8 Nights / 9 Days

This comprehensive package adds Kolhapur (the original Kolhapuri chappals city and Mahalakshmi Temple), Ratnagiri (Alphonso mango country, Jaigad Fort, pristine beaches), and Konkan coastal route exploration to the core circuit. Starting from ₹21,999 per person — perfect for travellers from Hyderabad, Bangalore, Kolkata, Chennai wanting the full coastal-heritage-hill station-city combination that Maharashtra uniquely offers.

Kolhapur & Konkan Coast

Kolhapur is famous for its Mahalakshmi Temple (one of the 51 Shakti Peethas), Kolhapuri chappals (traditional leather footwear now popular worldwide), and its delicious mutton and fish curries (Kolhapuri cuisine is considered the spiciest in Maharashtra). The Konkan coast south of Mumbai is one of India's most beautiful and least-visited stretches — pristine beaches, Portuguese-era sea forts (Sindhudurg Fort, Vijaydurg Fort), coconut groves, cashew plantations, and the world's finest Alphonso mangoes (in season March-June).

Maharashtra Grand Tour – 10 Nights / 11 Days

The ultimate Maharashtra experience covering all major destinations plus Pune (Oxford of the East — OSHO Meditation Resort, Shaniwar Wada, Aga Khan Palace), the trekking forts of the Sahyadri mountains (Sinhagad, Rajgad, Torna — forts built by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj), Tadoba Tiger Reserve (best for tiger sightings in Vidarbha), and Pench Tiger Reserve. Starting from ₹29,999 per person — the most complete Maharashtra experience from Noida, Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore.

6 Essential Maharashtra Travel Tips

Expert advice from our Maharashtra travel specialists

🏛️
Visit Ajanta in the Morning
Ajanta Caves are best visited in the morning (8-11am) when natural light enters the caves and illuminates the extraordinary frescoes. By afternoon the light angle changes and photography becomes harder. The caves are closed on Mondays — plan accordingly.
🚇
Use Mumbai's Local Trains
Mumbai's local train network is the city's lifeline and a genuine cultural experience. Avoid peak hours (8-11am, 5-8pm) — the crush is legendary. The AC local trains are more comfortable. A one-day tourist travel card gives unlimited rides across the Central and Western lines.
🍷
Book Sula Vineyards in Advance
The Sula Vineyards cellar door and restaurant fill up quickly on weekends and completely during Sula Fest (January-February). Book tasting sessions and restaurant reservations at least 2 weeks ahead. Stay at the Beyond by Sula resort for the most immersive vineyard experience.
🌧️
Monsoon is Spectacular in the Ghats
July-September monsoon transforms the Sahyadri hills into a breathtaking emerald landscape with hundreds of waterfalls. Lonavala, Mahabaleshwar, and Igatpuri are spectacular in monsoon. However, some cave sites may be slippery and some forts are closed for safety. Road conditions can be challenging.
🦺
Hire Dharavi Tour Guide
The Dharavi slum tour is one of Mumbai's most eye-opening experiences — but only with a certified guide who ensures community respect and ethical tourism. Several NGO-certified guide services operate excellent tours (₹800-1,500/person). Photography inside residential areas is restricted.
🍽️
Try Mumbai's Street Food
Mumbai's street food is among India's best: Vada Pav (₹15-25 — Mumbai's burger), Pav Bhaji, Bhel Puri, Pani Puri, and Misal Pav are must-tries. Best spots: Mohammad Ali Road (Iftar street food, best in Ramadan), Chowpatty Beach, Juhu Beach, and the street stalls of Fort area.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about your Maharashtra trip

November to February is the best overall time to visit Maharashtra — comfortable temperatures (15-28°C), clear skies, and all attractions accessible. October has Navratri-Dussehra-Diwali festivals which are spectacular. February is ideal for Mahabaleshwar (strawberry season) and Nashik (Sula Fest, late January-early February). July-September monsoon is spectacular in the Western Ghats but some areas may be inaccessible. March-June is best for Alphonso mangoes (April-May) but temperatures are high (35-40°C) in inland areas.

2-3 days is ideal for Mumbai. Day 1: South Mumbai (Gateway, CST, Kala Ghoda, Fort area). Day 2: Dharavi, Dhobi Ghat, Juhu Beach, Bandra-Juhu for food. Day 3: Elephanta Caves ferry trip, Crawford Market shopping, farewell dinner at a rooftop restaurant. Add a day for a Bollywood studio tour (Film City, Goregaon) if interested in Hindi cinema.

Ajanta and Ellora are both near Aurangabad but are 100km apart from each other (2-hour drive). Most tours spend one day at Ajanta and one day at Ellora, using Aurangabad as a base. Aurangabad has an airport (flights from Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad) making it easy to fly in, visit both cave complexes, and fly out. Luxytrix arranges Aurangabad-based packages with comfortable hotel stays and expert archaeological guides at both sites.

Maharashtra has several excellent hill stations: Mahabaleshwar (most popular — strawberries, viewpoints, Sahyadri scenery, 285km from Mumbai), Lonavala-Khandala (closest to Mumbai-Pune, adventure sports, Karla Caves, 2hrs from Mumbai), Matheran (car-free hill station, only mule/walking access, 90km from Mumbai), Chikhaldara (tribal area, coffee plantations, 470km from Mumbai), and Bhandardara (ideal for couples — lakeside camping, waterfalls, 160km from Mumbai).

Yes, Maharashtra is generally considered safe for solo female travellers. Mumbai in particular is among India's safest cities for women, with abundant public transport, well-lit public spaces, and a cosmopolitan culture. Standard urban safety precautions apply (avoid isolated areas at night, use trusted transport). Hill stations and tourist areas are very safe. Luxytrix assigns female escorts/guides on request for solo female traveller packages.

Absolutely — Maharashtra and Goa are neighbouring states and combine beautifully. A popular itinerary from Delhi, Noida, Mumbai: 3-4 days Mumbai → drive/train down the Konkan coast (scenic) → 3-4 days Goa. The Konkan coastal route passes through stunning Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg Fort, and Malvan before crossing into Goa. Alternatively, Mumbai-Aurangabad (cave temples) can be combined with Goa on a 8-10 day itinerary. Luxytrix offers seamless Maharashtra-Goa combination packages.
